TITLE VI

Notifying the Public of Rights under Title VI

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Section 601prohibits discrimination “on the basis of race, color, or national origin” in any “program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” Subsequent legislation has extended the protections under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to prohibit discrimination based on gender, disability, age, and income status. The Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987 established that Title VI applies to all programs and activities of Federal-aid recipients, sub-recipients and contractors whether those programs and activities are federally funded or not.  As a recipient of state and federal funds, the Town of Haddam is subject to the provisions of Title VI.

All Haddam Town Office employees are ready to assist any resident who needs language assistance.

Each office has I-Speak cards to present to the resident, once the resident selects the language they are proficient in, the employee will contact the interpreter at no cost to the resident.
