Connecticut River Area Health District

CRAHD

In an effort to regionalize local public health services in the lower Connecticut River Valley the Connecticut River Area Health District was formed. The CRAHD member Towns include Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Haddam and Old Saybrook. CRAHD serves its population of over 40,000 year- round residents, as well as a seasonal swell in population of our shoreline towns during the summer months. We are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our residents and being a source of information for health-related concerns.

The CRAHD services include but are not limited to: monitoring the health status of the population, disease control and prevention and dedication to reducing the risk of disease, promoting better health in adults and children including promotion of healthy lifestyles, health education for a better informed population, environmental health and code compliance to ensure safe water, food, public facilities, sanitation, waste water disposal, public pools, day care centers, vermin control and minimum housing standards, preparing for health emergencies such as a new emerging infection or a shift in a perennial disease, and planning and implementing community public health programs.
