** A note from the First Selectman **

Two recent social media posts by members of the Planning and Zoning Commission attacked Senator Kamala Harris in a racist and sexist manner. Both individuals have apologized and I’m glad. However, the apologies neither excuse nor mitigate their actions. The posts were repulsive and offensive. They are antithetical to my core beliefs that everyone deserves to be treated equally and with respect and, more importantly, antithetical to the core values of our town and our country. The Declaration of Independence states “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…”. With these words our founding fathers set a lofty goal for us. A goal we have yet to fully achieve. A goal we need to continually strive for. Attacks like these are a step away from that goal. We deserve better. We are better! - Robert McGarry
